Our Process
Getting Started with Can Do Kids

Our Process Starts with an Intake Call
At Can Do Kids Pediatric Therapy Services we begin our new client process with an intake call. The purpose of this call is to gather information about the medical and developmental history, current problems or concerns, recent tests or procedures related to you and/or your child’s health, etc. We will also be able to answer your questions about the services we offer if we recommend an evaluation, and what therapy will look like.
Next is an Evaluation
Your first appointment, known as your initial evaluation, is a critical part of your treatment process. Your speech, physical, or occupational therapist will use this appointment to get to know you and your child through conversation, standardized assessments, observation, and client-therapist interaction. During this appointment our team will develop a comprehensive picture of current abilities and challenges.
When you come in for your evaluation appointment, our staff will collect a copy of your insurance card and a photo ID, a copy of the prescription given to you by your Doctor (if not received prior to your appointment), and your completed copy of the intake forms.
A typical evaluation appointment is between 45-90 minutes. Parents are asked to accompany children to the evaluation appointments
We Then Share Results and Plan of Care
The team develops individualized treatment plans specific to your child’s needs!
Once the speech, physical, or occupational evaluation is complete, your therapist will share the results and work with your whole family to create a treatment plan. Treatment plans or Plan of Cares are designed with the client to fit your lifestyle and help you achieve your child’s goals. This plan will consist of recommendations for how often you should come in for therapy and how long you can anticipate needing therapy. Your therapist will also work with you to establish your short and long-term therapy goals.
Can Do Kids therapists typically shares our treatment plans and recommendations with your primary care physician and any other professionals on your team that is involved with you or your child’s care (teachers, school therapists, neurologists, ENTs, etc).
Finally We Get Started with Treatment
Once your speech, physical, or occupational therapy begins, we will be working towards your short and long-term goals. The goal of therapy is to address any challenges or areas of weakness that were identified during the evaluation. Each therapy session will be structured around one or more of your goals and will typically include learning new skills, practicing those skills, and coaching on how to practice at home between sessions. What you work on will vary from session to session to keep clients motivated. Your therapist will also take data to track your progress and adjust your goals whenever necessary.
During the session, parents and caregivers will be asked to join in depending on the goals targeted and/or your child’s temperament. If your presence is not required, you are free to wait in the lobby or parking lot. Please be respectful of your therapist’s time and be sure to return before the session is completed. After each session, your therapist may offer a quick overview of the activities completed and any home programming that can expedite progress.
We ask that you are respectful to our therapists and show up On-Time and give your best effort to show up to each and every session that is scheduled for your child!
